Gemona del Friuli, in north Friuli Venezia Giulia, is the Italian pilot site of ConnectHeat. With no district heating today, the town relies mostly on gas and oil. The project will create a new network near schools, the gym, and the swimming pool, powered by local biomass and waste heat from the crematorium. Two 400 kW boilers, heat exchangers, and storage will supply around 800 MWh annually.
Beyond clean heat, the ambition is to set up a thermal energy community, build a local biomass supply chain, integrate renewables, raise awareness, and make this district heating system a flagship for the region.
