In the island of Gran Canaria, Spain, tourist activities account for more than 50% of the total energy consumption and 40% of CO2 emissions. Decarbonising this sector is essential to accelerate the green transition.

To tackle this challenge, our ConnectHeat partner Instituto Tecnológico de Canarias (ICT) develops a pilot energy community composed of tourism establishments, residential buildings and public players to produce and share energy sustainably. One of the objectives will be to provide renewable thermal energy via the first district heating in the Canary Islands, supplying outdoor pools.
