ConnectHeat is the first European initiative to develop heating and cooling communities in Europe, implementing seven real pilot cases in different EU countries and putting public authorities and citizens at the heart of energy transitions.
Reaching its close in September 2025, the project produced inspiring results including a map of 20+ use case examples, a thermal community blueprint, policy roadmaps and recommendations as well as concrete implementation of six pilot cases in different European regions.
This exclusive interview with the project coordinator Riccardo Battisti, Senior Project Manager, Ambiente Italia, recorded a few months ago gives an interesting insight into ConnectHeat, its key barriers as well as its objectives and added value.
